The pink Corsa started with very marked favorites for its 2019 edition, all European: Tom Doumolin, Primoz Roglic, Simon Yates and Vincenzo Nibali
It has already started the Giro d'Italia 2019, the first race of 'Las Tres Grandes de la Temporada', as it is usually called. The Italian round started on May 11 with an 8.2km time trial between Bologna and San Luca, and for this, its 102nd edition will feature a lot of big favorites, led by Tom Dumoulin. Before describing the title candidates, we remember that the first three rounds were won by Primoz Roglic (Slovenia) in the time trial.

Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb)
With the absence of the British Chris Froome, current champion of the competition, the Dutch rider Tom Dumoulin is the big favorite to keep the title of the turn. Although the leader of the Sunweb Team has not had great results this season, he is still the first candidate to get the first big of the year, says the newspaper Marca de España.
'The winner of the Giro del Centenario two years ago and second in 2018 has not given much to talk about at the beginning of 2019. Nor has he been lost, but with only 16 days of competition he arrived in Bologna as a solid candidate', the Iberian media published. Dumoulin did not do well in the first stage and was placed more than a minute behind Roglic.

Dumoulin arrives at the first big challenge of the year with a second place in one of the Queen stages of the Tour of the Arab Emirates and with the fourth place in the general ranking of the Tirreno-Adriatico as the best results at the start of the 2019 season.
Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott)
The current champion of the Tour of Spain, the British Simon Yates is another candidate to stay with the 'pink jersey'. The leader of the Mitchelton-Scott sum this year two wins, one in the Tour of Andalusia and another in the Paris-Nice chrono.
In addition, according to the coach of the Australian team Vittorio Algeri, the course favors him and gives Yates great chances to fight for the title. 'We have Yates, who has improved and defends himself very well. In the first time, he did very well, besides that there is a lot of race and he climbs well on the mountain ', assured Alegri in an interview for the newspaper El Tiempo de Colombia. Yates was second in the 1st stage.

Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma)
Undoubtedly, one of the cyclists who best arrives at the pink Corsa is the Slovenian rider Primoz Roglic, who won the two competitions he played this season: The Tirreno-Adriatico and the Emirates Tour, where he also won a stage. Although the Jumbo leader is not a specialist in the mountains, he climbs well and will try to take advantage of the three times to make a difference. The first one was already marked last Saturday.

Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain Merida)
Giro D'italia 2020 Route
The 34-year-old Italian will be looking for his third crown in the rotation, after the titles he won in 2013 and 2016. Nibali arrives at the first grand with more than 20 days of competition, where he achieved third place overall in the Tour of the Alps.
'It's a very complicated layout. There are three stages to the clock and the last week the auction will be the harsh mountain days. There are many claimants to the title, but I think that Nibali will have to take advantage in the hard climbs', said Italian coach Davide Bramati of Deceuninck-Quick Step.
